Maybelline Lash Stiletto Review

Seductive length… Shiny patent finish…

New! Maybelline Lash Stiletto.

How hot is that visual? So, anyone that reads my blog knows that I am huge fan of stilettos! My fix for a bad day… put on my stilettos and instantly I feel great! I wore this mascara for the first time alone and without an eyeliner and felt that my lashes looked long enough to where I didn’t have to over compendate with more eye makeup.

Well, the name Lash Stiletto definetly lives up to it’s name. Maybelline’s moto… “You know what stilettos can do for your legs? But do you know what they can do for your lashes?”

I have seen this mascara on the shelves and wanted to try it just for it’s name, but haven’t until now and boy am I glad that I did. I love a mascara that is non-clumpy, separating, and more thick at the root of the lash and thins out towards the tip. Lash Stiletto did all of this for me! The mascara tube is even shaped like a spikey stiletto heel and retails for around $6.99.

Tips for applying Lash Stiletto:

-Start at the root of the lash and curl your wand as you move towards the tips.

-You don’t need a lot to help extend your lashes to give a great length.

-I used an eye lash curler first and then applied the mascara and my lashes stayed curled throughout the day.

-Washing off the mascara at the end of the night was so easy, no eye makeup remover required.

So, who is this mascara for? For anyone that loves a clean, long and sexy lash! If you prefer a more voluminous lash, then you may try my favorite technique by using a clean mascara (lash stiletto) followed by a more volumizing formula. Using two mascaras is great for the woman who is “really into her lashes”!

How to apply mascara…Say goodbye to clumpy lashes!

Clumpy eye lashes filled with way too mascara is not a good look for anyone! This has to be one of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to makeup. Mascara is meant to take your natural lashes and enhance them to look soft and lush, not tarantula like! To really get more out of a mascara you must try a mascara that will separate and define each lash rather than coat it like crazy. I recently tried the new Christian Dior mascara, Iconic, $27.00. I am in love! The rubber wand that so many cosmetic companies are naming as their own, is really amazing for natural looking lashes that will help to achieve a natural, more separated look. Chanel mascara in Inimitable, $28.00is another one of my all time favorite mascaras. For a more affordable mascara with a similar technique, try L’oreal Clean Telescopic, $8.99mascara which is really affordable and in my opinion works just as great as the other high end mascaras mentioned.

To add a little more volume to your newly lush lashes, try a volumizing mascara over your defining mascara for the ultimate set of lashes! I created a video below which shows this same technique. In the video I used L’oreal Voluminous mascara, $8.99, which is great for the woman who loves to plump up her lashes!

One last thing, a mascara when used 5-7 days a week, will only last about 4-6 weeks due to bacteria build up and the amount of oxygen that is released into the tube each time it is opened. This tip will help your mascara to look more natural and to not flake off onto your skin! Do not ever add water or any other ingredients to your mascara, this will also help bacteria to mulitiply.

Gucci Fall/Winter Inspired Look…. Runway Makeup!

The makeup for Gucci Fall/ Winter 2008 is hot! The look is really not for the average woman on a daily basis, but great for a makeup artist to use for a Runway or Fashion Show look. This look toned down a little for a night time would be great for any woman.

To tone down this look I would use very minimal eyeliner on the bottom lash line and defininetly less black through the crease. Enjoy this video just for fun and some great eye candy for fashion too!

Time for a change, set aside your summer makeup!

I don’t know what it is, but I love the fall time! Maybe it is the fact that I am in love with the color gold, the drama or just the simple fact that fall fashion is always modest and classic. Fall is just right around the corner and many of you are still wearing your summer makeup! It is time to set all of your corals and pinks aside to welcome more rich and lush tones in your life. This season a darker lip is a must have, as well as… yeah gold is still in! I am sure that many of you have already seen Chanel’s new fall line since the fashion and cosmetic industry releases everything almost a season ahead of time. I am not a huge fan of Chanel’s eye shadows because of the lack of pigment and staying power, but I love their Nail Colour in Gold fiction, Glossimer in Gold Light and their new Face Highlighter in Gold Fever. These items are all limited and a must have for fall! I have found that these products look great on all skin tones, especially a more olive or deep skin tone.

MAC also has a fall line that has been out for a little while now that shows off that dark rich red lip that is so hot right now, the line is called Cult Of Cherry.

A couple must haves in this line is the Spiced Chocolate quad eye shadows which had four beautiful warm shades in the palette that you can wear through the fall and winter. The picture above may look intimidating, but it is a guaranteed gorgeous line! Russian Red and O lipstick which are two of my favorite lipsticks are also featured in this line. O Lipstick is an amazing fall lipstick color, I urge all women who want more color on their lips without going too dark or too bright to run out and try on this color! It is a sheer cranberry with a hint of bronze, there is nothing like it.

Here are a couple of tips that can help you to change your look from summer to fall:

- Use a lighter shade in a bronzer and put more emphasis on your blush.

- Ditch the corals and pinks!

- Introduce black or a dark brown eyeliner rather than your bronze or nothing at all.

- Use a more volumizing mascara to show off those lashes. Summer was about sheering everything down, but Fall and Winter you should choose more prominent tones.

- I know this a toughie for most women, but you must wear a lip liner! If you are wearing a darker or brighter lipstick than you did in the summer than you must perfect that lip and use a liner!

- Time to start using your Creme De La Mer again! The weather is not too cold and dry yet, but get a head start and begin to moisturize and replenish your skin now.

- At your next pedicure appointment try a deep nail polish, such as OPI Black Cherry Chutney. This is one of my Fall and Winter faves!

- The Summertime can set a “care free: tone, but you must leave your house prepared with your fabulous hand cream (I am addicted to Aveda’s Hand Relief!), eye drops and a great pashmina scarf to match your new lipstick.

- Since you have commited to wearing a deeper or brighter shade of lipstick you have to make sure that you are looking flawless, you never know how you will run into! Try Guerlain’s Kiss Lift which helps your lipstick to prevent from bleeding and wearing off so soon!

- Change your blush to a warm berry or mauve for the fall.

Enjoy changing your makeup wardrobe! Let me know of any fun products that you find out there for the fall, I am always looking for new amazing products!

How to get your eyeshadow to last all day!

Many women don’t even bother putting on eye shadow in the morning because they know that in just a few short hours their shadow, time and effort will all be bunched in the middle of the eyelid. This is not a good look for anyone! I can’t tell you how many women I know apply their eye shadow straight to a bare eyelid or me on top of a sheer coat of foundation. This is crazy to me, why even bother!

Think of your eyelid as a bare canvas that needs to be prepared with gesso before you begin your masterpiece with paint, or in your case…..eye shadow! So, what is a girl to do? I really do have the oiliest eyelids in town and have to work to keep my shadow on, so I have used many many products out there so you don’t have to!

Here are some steps on how to prepare for eye shadow:

1. Don’t use a heavy eye cream! Use a light-weight silicone based eye cream during the day to absorb excess oil on the eyelid.

2. Don’t put foundation or concealer on your eye lid so you can really get the full effect out of your eye shadow base.

3. Do use an eye shadow base, such as Urban Decay Primer Potion (normal to oily skin), MAC Paints (normal to oily skin) or Laura Mercier Eye Basics (normal to dry skin).

4. Do apply your eye shadow base using a brush if you have a really have a hard time keeping your eye shadow on so the oils in your finger tips do not "breakdown" your eye shadow base. A synthetic fiber brush flat brush will work the best!

5. Do use your fingers to apply your eye shadow base if your eyelids are not excessively oily.

6. Do warm up the eye shadow base on the back of your hand or on a spatula to warm the product so it moves better on the skin.

7. Do apply a thin layer of any eye shadow base.

8. Do know that your eye shadow is only as good as your eye shadow base! Blend that base and blend it some more! If your base is clumpy then your shadow will be too.

9. Do not use a sponge tip applicator to apply your eye shadow, use natural hair brushes when using a powder eye shadow. This will apply less pressure and blend the eye shadow with more precision and in return will look much better!

These are a couple of tips tht really do help your eye shadow to stay in place for the day! Enjoy your crease-less eye shadow!

Eye makeup tips: How to choose your perfect mascara!

mascara wands

Do you have lash envy? I bet you are admiring your best friend who has amazing lashes because of her favorite mascara she has used for years, but when you tried it you had tarantula lashes! There is not just one perfect mascara for every woman. The truth is that finding the best mascara takes time and patience… kinda like dating! You are introduced to the mascara and you seem a little excited thinking about what might be, but then you find out that this mascara does not want the same lash look as you and then it is time to move on once again in search of that one perfect mascara. Keep your chin up ladies there are plenty of mascaras out there! Now it time to figure out what you really want and don’t be afraid to do your research. Here are a couple of tips:

1. Determine what you want your lashes to look like (full and thick or long and defined)

2. Determine what your type of lashes you have (full, skimpy, long, short, etc.)

3. Choose your mascara based on the brush not the formula.

-Full and Thick lashes: Choose the bristles that are not so close together, there will typically be a lot of space between the bristles just like the first brush in the picture above.

-Long and defined: Choose the brush that looks like small needles that taper at the end. This brush will not allow a lot of mascara on your lash for that clumpy look.

Whatever mascara you end up choosing just remember that your lashes should never be really hard or clumpy, lashes should be lush and soft. Use a makeup remover at the end of the night to remove all mascara and eye makeup to ensure that your lashes stay soft. I love using jojoba oil with a cotton ball which moisturizes your lashes and delicate eye area. I would love to hear about your favorite mascaras! Write to me I love to chat! Salaam, Danica!

Eye makeup tips: Flirting with the idea of wearing false lashes?

lash Ok so maybe I am a little biased, but I am in love with false lashes! I dare you to catch me without my lashes on. You may not even realize that I am wearing falsies on a daily basis, but I like it like that. A girl can’t give away all of her secrets now, can she? This is a great eye makeup tip! When wearing lashes make sure that you buy a natural hair lash with a clear band and then you will cut the lash in the middle or less and apply a thin layer of glue (DUO dark waterproof).

glue

Let the glue dry for 30 seconds or less, then tilt the lash downwards into the eye and apply just on the outer edge of the eye for that feminine flair!

I will go into further detail about false lash application in my upcoming EBook!

Are you wearing the best eyeshadow color to bring out your eyes?

Sure you may love purple on your eyes, but is that really the best shade for you? Don’t get me wrong I believe any woman can wear color just for fun, but there are colors that can be more flattering for you. I always say, “Forget winters, summers, cools or warms!” Whatever you may have been told in the past from someone with no experience at a makeup counter. Let us take a small art history course together, shall we? What is a complimentary color? To find the complimentary to eye color you would simply use a traditional color wheel (Find one below), locate your eye color on the chart and then find the color directly across the wheel. For example, you may have green eyes… What is your complimentary color? Red. This does not mean that you will be wearing red eyeshadow! Choose a pretty brown with a red base versus a golden base or a purple versus a blue or green. Using your complimentary color is great for everyday, but keep in mind that there is no right or wrong. Every woman has her preference…

I love to hear feedback so contact me with any questions or comments, go ahead I am listening. Until next time, Danica.
