How to clean your makeup brushes!

Here is my way of cleaning my makeup brushes, which will help your brushes to last longer and be used to their highest potential! When your brush is clean your makeup will go on so much more smooth and even. I prefer to use MAC brush cleanser which is so gentle on your brushes and not too expensive either! Here are some tips when washing your makeup brushes:
- Use Lukewarm water versus hot or cold.
- Never use too much water, so that the water will not surpass the metal bracket of the brush.
- Use a gentle gel face wash or I prefer the MAC brush cleanse because it is so gentle.
- Give your brushes a deep cleanse at least once a month.
- Do not use dish soap or any harsh cleansers on your brushes.
- Soaking your brushes is not a good idea because the water can get into the metal bracket and break up the glue that holds the bristles together.
- Be gentle and do not dig your brush into the container when cleaning, just swish:)
- Rinse your brushes clean and squeeze out the excess water.
-Lay flat to dry, so again the water does not get into the metal bracket of the brush.
So now it is time to go clean your brushes! You know your poor brushes need a good cleaning:)

I found the absolute best brush cleaner is Dr. Bronner’s Pure Castile Soaps (it’s also a lot less expensive). It pulls all the makeup out in a jiffy. Just a small drop in the palm of your hand, wet the brush hairs (again, avoid the ferrule!) and clean against the palm of your hand. Hanging your brushes to dry (put a rubber band around the handle and hang from a towel rack) will keep water from going into the ferrule and dry them evenly.

Hello;
This is great video THANX.
I like to know about the foundation brush 190 I find you never get all of it out? then again I didn’t know it should be done after each use. any advice?
one time I soaked the whole brush in the MAC cleaner. not only did the bristles turned colour the handle cracked the paint chipped and it came loose so I reglued it. I never did that again needless to say.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS,
Sandi

Hi Sandy, yeah soaking a makeup brush will do that! Never soak your brushes just do as I did in the video and swish them around. For the foundation brush you can massage the product out and deep cleanse it about once a week. Always dilute your brush cleanser as well:)

Hey Danica,
I love your brushes and I am a makeup and MAC fanatic as well. I usually clean my brushes by squirting a small amount of MAC cleanser on a paper towel and then i gently swish the brushes back and forth until there is no more product coming off the brush and your right, there is a huge difference when you are using freshly clean brushes with your makeup. I wanted to ask how do i become a makeup artist like you? I am working retail right now and its barely paying the bills. I wanna do something i love. thanks in advance. =)
Always,
April =)
